Lodge Banquet

The Lodge Banquet, March 4-6, was an extremely fun weekend. The Elgixin Chapter had lots of fun competing in many competitions and taking 2nd place in the Tom Tatham Spirit Award.

Throughout the weekend we were full of spirit; we even had an Elgixin Mascot, aka Brian Schibliech. With all the fun taking place, we still found time to improve Camp Seminole in preparation for the Section Conference.

Thanks adults for working hard. That Saturday night, we had many chapter members earn various awards, such as First Year Arrowman, and the Meritorious Service Award. We even had two members receive their Vigil Honor, Brett Fernon and Geoff Landau. If you missed out on the Lodge Banquet, be sure to attend next year, it is a lot of fun.

Section Conference Thanks

Now that we have had a chance to recoup from one Fantastic Section Conference, I would like to personally thank each and every one of you who worked your butts off to make the food preparation, cooking and service to all those who attended the best that has ever been.

I have heard nothing but praise about our food. Many could not believe we cooked it all at camp and didn't have it brought in. How they got it hot and plenty of it! I could not have nor would I have tried to do this without the Best Chapter's Support.  I don't care what anyone else says; no and I MEAN NO!!! other Chapter could have pulled this off and we all know why; YOU ALL ARE THE BEST THERE IS. Thanks for all your energy and staying power.

As you know we had very long hours from very early in the morning to late at night. We have set the example for next years Cooks and I challenged them to top our service and food. I have spoken to the person in charge of food at the next Section Conference.

He is a Chef and he could not believe we did it all at camp on what we had. He has a full blown kitchen at his camp and was shocked when he saw what we had to work with compared to what we served.

He couldn't understand how we pulled it off.  That was easy for me to answer, I explained that we are ELGIXIN Chapter and we understand the meaning of service to others.  And that I was fortunate to be associated with the best group of Adults and Youth in O-SHOT-CAW Lodge I know and I'm Proud to be a part of the BEST CHAPTER and “that’s a fact jack”.

Geoff, thanks for asking me to chair this event and allowing me the opportunity to show why we are the best Chapter. Not only did we take care of the food we also filled in finishing up other problems that arose from Wednesday night on, as no sooner did Brett and the Chapter finish one thing they were called on again and again to take care of other projects. All this and set up our kitchen too!

Thanks for all you all do…

Thanks for your support…

Thanks for a GREAT WEEKEND…

Section Conference, Being the Cook's

Being in Boy Scouts, I’ve had to do a lot of projects like this one, serving people and working with people and such. Our Troop makes up most of the staff for Webelos Winter Weekend so I already had a taste of what it would be like to be doing Section Conference, but when you add almost 1000 people, I did figure it would be a lot more intense.

And boy was I right. Right off from the start, rushing to get things ready, checking once, twice, three times to make sure everything was right. Making sure we had enough food and drinks. Checking again. Constant working. It would have been very tedious and hard on those there but we had an amazing group, and amazing Chapter that came together and made this whole thing work. I personally had tons of fun working on this and  would love to work on it again. But, I sure am looking forward to not being staff for the next 8 Section Conferences.

Thanks, Nathan

A View on Section Conference from A First Year

As most people know I’ve only been in the O/A since January, due to personal events that kept me from my Ordeal until last winter. Before this the only O/A event I had ever helped out with was the Haunted Forest and the Basket Brigade, so I was really looking forward to Section.  Though I was really nervous knowing how many people were going to be there.

Finally the day came and it started out as a lot of fun. We weren’t working on food yet so I went and walked around and saw all the work that had been done really turned out great, and got to watch a lot of patch trading being done, and since I’ve only been into patch trading almost 6 months now, I learned a lot from watching the other people trade and talking to some of the older traders. Serving went really fast and I was amazed at how fast we got 1,200 people through. Then after clean up, at almost 1 am I finally got to head off to sleep. Then the next day came along. Woke up late for breakfast but was able to help clean up. Once breakfast was done and we were released, I went for a walk to see some more trading and then I went over to the dance ring and shops. I was absolutely amazed by all the things there were to buy, and shortly after ran back to get my dad so he could come and see all the stuff to. After spending around 20 minutes convincing him to go, we finally went and walked around the shops, but after a while it was time to go back to serve lunch. We didn't buy anything yet so my dad said that we'd go back later in the day. So then we served lunch, and again it went nice and smooth. Then afternoon came. After buying a couple necklaces at the shops I spent the rest of the time just hanging out with people in the kitchen. Though the heat got to me and I almost had a heat stroke, but I was fine. After some sitting down and water I was back on my feet ready to help. Dinner and cracker-barrel were just as smooth and we had fun saying who had the better food.

At the awards ceremony we took lots of awards including Best Lodge. And that was awesome knowing that I happen to be in the best Lodge in all of Florida. Then we did elections which took way longer than it should have, but that’s what you get when you tie the vote 4 times just for one election. All and all it was a great weekend and really gave me a taste of what the O/A is really like. And I have to say, I’m so glad that I finally made it and I’m sure that I’ll have many more good memories over the next few years.
