Subject: Scout memorial for Scouter James L. Bruce
Mr. James L. Bruce
On Feb 11, 1998 James L. Bruce died suddenly of an
aneurism. Jim was a leading member of the Ketchikan Alaska community and an
Eagle Scout and OA member.
Jim was survived by his wife Christa, sons James and
Christopher (who are both Eagle Scouts) and his brother John.
Jim was very active in scouting, serving as a scoutmaster,
council representative, and troop committee member. A special "Broken Arrow"
ceremony was held honoring Jim's contributions to the local Order of the Arrow
lodge and to the scouting community of Ketchikan.
Our friend Jim Bruce led a long and colorful life in
Scouting. Many of his friends and the young men he influenced will sit around
campfires for years to come and relate the adventure's of Jim in Scouting; of
hiking the Chilkoot trail; camping along White River in the rain; or explaining
to the district office that Alaska is not in the lower 48. Whatever the call,
Jim would answer.
Our friend, our mentor, our guide, our man of infinite
patience and understanding, he was always there. To build up a scout, calm down
a parent, or mold our leaders.
Jim was always there.
