==========================
Michael "Mikey" Carson - BSA
In October, 1996, Mikey Carson,
age 17, of Wasilla, Alaska died in a snowmachine accident. Mikey was hit by
another snowmachine while riding with his girlfriend.
Mikey was an Eagle Scout with
Troop 366, Palmer, Alaska. I had the privilege of being one of his Scoutmasters.
Just over a year ago Mikey honored me by asking me to speak at his Eagle Court
of Honor. We talked about the gifts God has given us - each other. How we learn
from each person we encounter in life and how they in turn learn from us. How
important it is to learn well, teach responsibly by example, and follow a good
code of ethics - "the Scout Law".
I taught Mikey a few things
over the years, but learned so much more from him. From Mikey's enthusiasm and
example, I gained a great appreciation for:
living life to its' fullest
the value of good friends
the importance of family
the power of a smile
the importance of setting goals
the enjoyment of harmless mischief
the love of all outdoor activities
the beauty that God has surrounded us with.
Those of us who knew Mikey are still learning from
his example. He will never leave us, for each of our lives have been forever
altered because we knew him.
Rest in God's peace, Mikey. You will be with us
always.
