Wayne Bailey - B.S.A.

Sometimes people come into your life and you
know right away that they were
meant to be there, they serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or
help figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be; your coworker, neighbor, long lost
friend, or even a complete stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you
know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.
Wayne Bailey was one of those people who came into the lives of many.
He enjoyed a five decade career as a home builder in Manatee County, Florida
and was the owner of Wayne Bailey Construction. He was a lifelong volunteer
in the Boy Scouts of America and was, at the time of his passing, Properties
Director at Camp Flying Eagle in the Southwest Florida Council. He twice
served on the staff for the National Jamboree, and had received numerous
awards in Scouting including Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor,
Wood Badge, and the Silver Beaver for distinguished service to youth. He
loved to do many things including cooking, camping, building, sailing,
exploring, and reading about the American Civil War.
Those of us who knew Wayne really grew to honor him as a friend. He touched
us with his friendship and generosity; he taught us to laugh often and love
much; to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of
false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one's
self; to leave the world a bit better; to know even one life has breathed easier
because we have lived.
Wayne Bailey lived, breathed, and preached Scouting with a passion. He gave
of his talents so that others could continue Scouting. His life was, and our lives
are, much more wealthy because he succeeded in his endeavors. And now he has
left our campfire for the final time and has gone home.
Good-bye Wayne. You touched our lives, and we are better because you did.
Rest in peace thy good and faithful Scouter. We'll see ya on the trail.
