Gentle Folks,
It is my very sad task to inform you of the passing of one of Troop 23's Scouts.
Bradley Silchuck passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2001 after a long and
brave struggle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was 13 years old.
Brad was a great inspiration to his entire Troop family. Though his involvement
was so severe that he could only use his right thumb and index finger to control
his wheelchair, he rarely missed a meeting and even attended many campouts.
He never complained, was always ready to participate to the fullest, and, wielding
his wheelchair, did so with great verve and enthusiasm.
His fellow Scouts were proud to hold up Brad's arm as he recited the Scout Oath
and Law at the start of every Troop meeting when even breathing was an effort.
His example led to Troop 23's participation as uniformed volunteers in the Muscular
Dystrophy Marathon more than fifty strong for the past several years.
Brad was working on his Star rank.
Troop 23 has started a Memorial Page for Brad at:
http://www.troop23.org/brad/index.html
Please join us in honoring this very brave and inspirational Scout.
We have been enriched and inspired by Brad's presence among us and will miss him
greatly.
