Jeremy Sculnick - B.S.A.

Greetings. My name is Alex Segneri.   I am an Eagle Scout from the
Blackhawk Area Council in Illinois, and I want to request a remembrance
for my friend and colleague Jeremy Sculnick.

Jeremy was a part of the JLT (Jr. Leader Training) family in our council.  I had the honor of serving three years with him; until he got into a car accident in which a drunk driver killed both him and his younger brother on impact in the fall of '99.

I too have his name: Jeremy Sculnick. And in his remembrance I want to put this down: As the years go by I start to wonder what things would be like? Would I get to  see what the world might be like for better or for worse? Would the United States collapse due to some economic depression?

Then I start to wonder what my friends and family would be like with me out of the picture? Would my friends forget about me or would they, if someone tried to fill my shoes?

Everyday when I hear about teens getting into accidents or deaths I think about the night I got the phone call from my friends telling me my good friend Jeremy got killed in a car accident.  It's one of those moments that you wish you were there at that time, or thinking about things in the past on what you did together well.  It's hard to lose a good friend that you can count on.

Jeremy was the type of guy who would get the team going, he was like our cheer squad.  He also helped around the camp and when we get our JLT course going he was like our brother.  And it hurts every time I hear the words "JLT is around the corner'' and you look around and you see all your friends, but you know Jeremy is not there.  And that hurts more so, because I lost a friend, colleague, a brother.

The worst part of this whole ordeal was that Jeremy has never received his Eagle Scout Rank.  He was a project away from his Eagle Badge.

So Jeremy, can you please save a spot for me around the campfire, cause I'm going to tell you things that you have missed, and we are going to laugh once we tell scout stories again.

I have a message for the people that are reading this remembrance.  My friend Jeremy was killed on impact along with his younger brother, by a drunk driver, while on their way to school in the morning.

I know it's fun to go to a party and have fun, but if you're old enough to drink please if you are going to drink leave your car keys with the host of the party and stay at that house cause we don't want you or your friends killed in a drunk driving accident.

You're too young to die and if you're one of the unfortunate ones like my friend who
didn't get his Eagle Badge please get that, because once you're an Eagle you're
always an Eagle Scout.
