Mr. Buck Froehner

A sad note as Houston's Troop 30 prepares for this months 75th anniversary party.

Charter member of the troop, Buck Froehner, passed away.  Buck's dad was the first Scoutmaster in 1925 and Buck later wrote in the Troop's history book that he and the other boys in the patrol decided to collect newspapers
to raise money for purchasing equipment from the Sears Catalog.  The newspaper collecting is still going on, making it quite possibly the longest running paper drive in Houston.

Buck fondly remembered duck hunting on ponds long since paved over, and driving down country lanes now major thoroughfares. Buck was active with the troop for most of his life and taught his profession to Scouts by teaching
the Beekeeping Merit Badge, until it to,  passed with the times.

Because of his close ties with the Troop and St. Marks United Methodist Church, Buck remained for many years as our Chartered Organization Representative.  Our re-charter is due next month,  guess we'll sadly have to find a new Charter Rep.?

I remember him being introduced at one annual Troop banquet as, "the man who started all this and the one who would probably be around to clean it all up after we are all gone".  He was a fine man.
